The first filmmaker to be sponsored by Will Film For Food is Savvy Lorestani and his film, Quarterlife Ben. Below is the log-line and synopsis for the film.
Logline: Ben, who just moved back home with his father, can’t (or won’t) make any steps to get his life going, but things start to change when he meets an older woman that seems to appreciate his childish quarks.
Synopsis: Quarterlife Ben is a coming of age story about a twenty-four year old guy that can’t (or won’t) take any steps to get his life moving. Lost and aimless, Ben spends his days watching TV, smoking pot and avoiding any sort of actual personal interaction. While all his old friends are starting families and building lives, Ben can’t seem to muster the ambition to renew his driver’s license.
Ben lives alone with his father, Tom. Nurturing and protective to a fault, Tom loves Ben just as he is and doesn’t push him at all to find direction in his life. Tom himself is stuck. He suffers from severe social anxiety disorder, and hasn’t left his condo since Ben’s mother died four years ago. Against this backdrop, Ben’s successful older twin brothers come into town from LA to convince Ben that its time to get his life moving.
Ben’s routine of nothingness begins to change when he meets Merit, a forty-five year old attorney that hires Ben to witness real estate closings. As they spend time together and their friendship develops into an awkward attraction, Ben starts to explore his own feelings about life, love, and all the apathy in between.
When the relationship ends, Ben has to decide what he wants to do with his life. Will he move out of his dad’s house? Will he figure out what it means to be a man? Will Quarterlife Ben grow up?
